At UAS, we strive to connect you with people and resources who can help you achieve your career goals. This is an exciting time and there is much to learn as you launch your time at UCSB and begin to take steps toward your career.
Alongside UAS, the Economics department’s Career Connection office helps connect students with career opportunities. Through Career Connection, students can get their resumes critiqued, check CPA requirements, or have any questions about the recruiting process or graduate school answered. Be sure to become a member, frequently visit our Announcements page, and follow our Instagram to stay updated on our latest events.
During this first year, you’ll want to focus on maintaining your GPA to meet the pre-major requirements. We also recommend you begin to look for opportunities to build your experiences at the collegiate level; soon you won’t be able to list your high school experiences on your resume.
During Fall Quarter, we're focused on connecting our members with internship and full-time opportunities with firms from around the world. We call this time of year "fall recruiting season". We invite you to become a member and begin attending meetings and events this quarter so that as you advance in your academics, you'll know what to expect in future years.
The best way to learn more about UAS and how to achieve in the Economics & Accounting major is to get involved with our organization immediately. You might not be looking for a summer internship right now, but you’ll want to slowly build your network and develop a plan to achieve your goals. Take advantage of our more senior members and always ask questions; you’ll learn from what others in the major are talking about too. Join us for Weekly Meetings on Tuesday nights to meet students and professionals as well as learn tips to develop your personal brand. We also host socials and networking events throughout the year.
Information for Transfers
Many transfer students choose to begin the recruiting process immediately upon entering UCSB because third-year students are heavily sought after for summer internships. Transfer students are excellent candidates for many of these summer positions and for any other positions firms seek to fill. Meet the Firms is the largest networking event of the year and is the beginning of the recruiting season. Transfer students are especially encouraged to attend. Students should apply for jobs and internships using Handshake. Be sure to mark the deadlines for applications on your calendar as many immediately follow Meet the Firms. Many firms host socials and on-campus interviews throughout the remainder of the quarter. Fall quarter is the busiest time of year for UAS and for Econ/Accounting majors. It is important to stay updated by following the UAS Instagram page, Events, and Announcements pages. In order to better prepare for fall recruiting, we recommend immediately preparing a resume and updating LinkedIn. Throughout the year, we invite you to join us for our regularly scheduled Weekly Meetings on Tuesday nights, where we host firms or hold workshops to give you a chance to network and further refine your brand (food is always provided!). Please also join us for regularly scheduled events including socials and networking events.
